New Updated Paddler’s Guide to Northumberland County, VA Now Available

July 2, 2025
Did you know there are two dozen launch sites for canoes/kayaks/paddleboards between the Yeocomico River and Indian Creek? The Northumberland Association For Progressive Stewardship (NAPS) has produced a new, improved and completely updated Paddler’s Guide to Northumberland County tri-fold brochure, now available at many information kiosks and displays, and can be downloaded for free at NAPSva.org/paddlers-guide. The guides were printed and distributed by Northumberland County and the Northern Neck Planning District Commission as part of the Northern Neck National Heritage Area initiative. To obtain paper copies of the brochure, email nntc@northernneck.org.

The tri-fold brochure contains a master map with all the launch locations and other area features, with qr-coded links to six downloadable detail maps and information on dining, lodging and attractions. The detail maps include directions to each launch site with contact information, experience-rated paddling routes, tide, weather, and navigational chart links, a safety checklist, and stewardship guidelines.

The six downloadable detail maps cover:

• Yeocomico River
• Coan River
• Little Wicomico River
• Great Wicomico River – West
• Great Wicomico River – East (including Cockrells Creek)

• Indian & Dividing Creeks
The downloadable detail maps will be updated regularly with new routes and info. You may submit your own routes or corrections to Stewardship@NAPSva.org, or visit NAPSva.org/paddlers-guide.
